When I think of New Orleans food, I think of Brunch.

I grew up about 100 miles from New Orleans, which is where my parents are from. So I’ve been there many times visiting family, and also have lots of friends there.

Did I say that brunch is a really big deal in New Orleans?

Especially on Sundays.

I could not spend a weekend with a relative or friend there without being served a nice brunch.

For brunch, a person does not crawl out of bed and drag themselves to the kitchen (as is my usual MO on a typical weekday morning). No, we are expected to be awake and alert and dressed up for a big family event!

So one weekend we were at my grandma and grandpa’s house for a family reunion. It was Sunday morning, and the big event had been the day before. I knew that Grandpa would be serving a nice brunch today, as he always did when I was visiting.

I was awakened by the voices of lots of my relatives. They were all downstairs in the kitchen in a good-natured discussion about whose Eggs Benedict was the best!

Looking out the window, I saw a beautifully adorned long buffet table being prepared in the back garden. So I got ready for brunch and put on a breezy white dress…
